The majority of tourists in France prefer to stay in larger, countryside regions than in major cities, according to new statistics.
Just 47 percent of tourists in 2016 chose a major French city - Paris, Marseille, Lyon, Toulouse, Nice, Nantes, Strasbourg, or Montpellier - for their vacation destination.
This compared to 57 percent in 2015 and 67 percent in 2014.
